Sleek Apparels

Overseas Clothing Manufacturer

Manufacture offshore without the 1,000-piece minimum that usually comes with it — 50 pieces per style, published pricing, and a plain account of what duty, freight and distance will actually cost you.

Deciding to manufacture overseas is usually a decision about minimums and margin: domestic makers who will run small quantities charge accordingly, and the overseas factories quoting the prices you want tend to start at 1,000 pieces or more. That gap is the reason most brands stall here. We sit in it deliberately — offshore unit economics at a 50-piece minimum — and this page sets out what you gain, what it costs you, and where going overseas is the wrong call.

What actually changes when you manufacture overseas

The headline change is unit cost, but it is rarely the one that decides whether the move works. Four other things change at the same time, and each of them is a place where a first offshore order goes wrong.

  • Minimums usually rise, not fall — most overseas factories are built for 1,000+ pieces per style. Ours start at 50 for knitwear and 300 for wovens.
  • Your calendar lengthens. Allow 25–35 days from order to shipment, plus transit: a few days by courier, one to two weeks by air, roughly a month by sea.
  • Duty and import VAT enter the picture, and they are yours. Freight is inside our unit price; the tax at your border is not.
  • Quality control moves out of arm's reach, so it has to become a documented process — AQL 2.5 inspection and an approved sealed sample — rather than something you check in person.
  • Communication crosses time zones. That is a real cost in revision cycles, and the fix is a tech pack precise enough that fewer questions need asking.

The cost comparison nobody publishes honestly

Most overseas-manufacturing pages compare a foreign unit price against a domestic one and stop there, which flatters the foreign number by leaving out everything that happens after the goods leave the factory. The comparison only means something once both sides are landed.

Our published prices are CIF: freight to your door is already inside them, duties and import VAT are not. So the honest way to compare us against a domestic quote is to take our figure, add your country's apparel duty rate and import VAT, and compare that total against the domestic quote at the same quantity. Our landed-cost calculator does that arithmetic for you.

The part that usually decides it is not the per-piece number at all. It is the minimum. A domestic maker quoting a workable price at 300 pieces and an overseas factory quoting a better one at 1,000 are answering different questions if what you need is 50 — and a 1,000-piece run of an unvalidated design is the most expensive mistake available to a new brand, whatever the unit price.

When you should not manufacture overseas

There are cases where offshore is the wrong answer, and we would rather say so than take an order that disappoints.

  • You need stock in under three weeks. Development, sampling and transit do not compress; a domestic maker or a decorated blank will beat us on speed every time.
  • You are running genuinely tiny quantities — 10 to 25 pieces. Studio-scale makers in your own city are built for that and we are not.
  • "Made in USA", "Made in UK" or a domestic-origin claim is part of the product. We cannot give you that, and no amount of price advantage substitutes.
  • You need a preferential proof of origin to clear duty-free. We are not registered to issue one, so EU and UK buyers should budget for standard apparel duty plus import VAT.
  • Your design needs weekly physical iteration with the pattern cutter in the room. That is a genuine argument for staying local until the fit is locked.

How to de-risk a first offshore order

  • Sample before you commit — one style, costed at USD 60 blank or USD 85 branded plus shipping, credited back against the bulk order.
  • Start at the minimum, not at the price break. A 50-piece run tells you what the factory is like for a fraction of the exposure.
  • Get the sealed sample approved in writing, and make it the reference the AQL inspection is run against.
  • Ask for the landed number, not the unit price, and confirm which incoterm it is quoted on before you compare anything.
  • Verify the factory independently — audit references, a video walkthrough of the actual floor, and a buyer in your own market you can contact.

Why brands choose Bangladesh specifically

Once the decision to go offshore is made, the choice is usually between China, Vietnam and Bangladesh. Bangladesh is the world's second-largest apparel exporter and is strongest exactly where most independent brands are buying: cotton knitwear — tees, hoodies, polos, sweatshirts, joggers.

What it is not automatically is cheap-and-easy. The country's reputation was built on volume, which is why almost every factory here quotes minimums a new brand cannot use, and why social compliance is the first thing a serious buyer checks. Our facility is BSCI certified, we hold no other certification, and we will tell you so plainly rather than implying more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order for overseas manufacturing?

Ours is 50 pieces per style for knitwear — t-shirts, hoodies, polos, sweatshirts, joggers — rising to 100 in peak season, and 300 pieces per style for woven garments. That is unusually low for an overseas factory; most are built for 1,000 pieces or more per style. Colours can usually be split within a single design, so 50 pieces does not have to mean 50 identical units.

How much cheaper is overseas manufacturing, really?

It depends entirely on your quantity and your destination country's duty rate, and anyone quoting a single percentage is guessing. What we can give you is our side of it in writing: indicative CIF pricing with freight included — adult regular-sleeve tees from $10.75, heavyweight oversized hoodies from $14.50. Add your own duty and import VAT to get the landed figure, then compare that against a domestic quote at the same quantity. Our landed-cost calculator does the arithmetic.

How long does an overseas order take?

Allow 25–35 days from order to shipment, plus transit. Production itself is 12–15 days for orders up to 2,000 pieces, counted from approved sample and confirmed deposit — sampling and approval sit in front of that. Transit runs a few days by courier, 6–10 days by air, or roughly a month by sea depending on your port.

Who pays the import duty?

You do. We ship door-to-door with freight already inside the unit price, but import VAT and duties in the destination country are paid by the buyer at clearance. We are not a DDP supplier and will not quote as one — you always see the duty line separately rather than discovering it as a broker invoice later.

How do I control quality from another country?

Through the sealed sample and the inspection standard, not through presence. You approve a physical sample before bulk starts, and that approved sample becomes the reference for AQL 2.5 inspection on the finished goods. We also send production photos and can arrange a third-party inspection if you want an independent check before shipment.

Is it safe to pay a factory overseas before seeing the goods?

It is the norm, and the protection is in the structure rather than in trust. Our terms are 50% before production and 50% before shipment — so the balance is only due once the goods exist and have been inspected. Never pay 100% up front to any overseas supplier, and start with a sample order before a bulk one.

What is the difference between overseas and offshore manufacturing?

Nothing meaningful — the two terms are used interchangeably for producing outside your home market. You will also see "offshoring" contrasted with "nearshoring", which means moving production to a nearby country rather than a distant one: Mexico for US brands, or Portugal and Turkey for European ones. Nearshoring buys shorter transit at a higher unit cost.
