The First-Time Buyer's Guide to Manufacturing in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is one of the world’s largest apparel exporters, which makes it one of the best places to manufacture — and an intimidating one to approach for the first time. This guide covers what to expect and how to vet a factory so your first order goes smoothly.

Why brands manufacture in Bangladesh
Decades of specialisation have given Bangladesh deep expertise in knitwear, competitive labour and fabric costs, and a mature export ecosystem. For knit products especially — tees, hoodies, polos — the combination of price and capability is hard to match.
Understand MOQs before you start
Minimum order quantity is the first thing that trips up new buyers. Many large factories require 1,000–5,000 pieces per style because their lines are built for volume. That is a real barrier if you are testing a new design.
Look for a partner whose MOQ matches your stage. We start at 50 pieces per style for knitwear precisely so new brands can validate demand before scaling.
Typical timelines
- Quotation: within 24 hours of a clear brief
- Sampling: 7–10 days for development samples
- Bulk production: 2–5 weeks depending on quantity and complexity
- Shipping: 3–7 days by courier, 5–10 by air, 25–35 by sea
- End-to-end, most first orders complete in 4–8 weeks
Payment terms that protect you
Standard, fair terms are a 30–50% deposit with order confirmation and the balance before shipment, by bank transfer. Be cautious of any supplier demanding 100% upfront. For larger or repeat orders, letters of credit and adjusted terms are common.

Questions to ask any factory
- What is your MOQ per style and per colour?
- Do you produce in-house or subcontract — and can I visit?
- What quality standard do you inspect to (e.g. AQL 2.5)?
- Will you share photo/video updates during production?
- What are your payment terms and lead times?
- Can I get a pre-production sample I approve before bulk?
De-risk with a sample first
The single best way to judge a manufacturer is to order a sample. It shows you their real quality, speed, and communication for a small outlay — long before you commit to a production run.
