Activewear Manufacturer: What Brands Should Know Before Sourcing

Activewear is one of the most technical categories to manufacture. Unlike a basic tee, it has to move, breathe, wick sweat, and survive repeated washing without losing shape. That means fabric science and construction matter more than almost anything else — and not every manufacturer can do it well. Here is what brands should know before sourcing activewear.

Performance fabric is the foundation

Activewear starts with the fabric. Polyester-spandex and nylon-spandex blends give the stretch and recovery that cotton cannot, while moisture-wicking finishes move sweat away from the skin.

Ask your manufacturer what base fabrics they run and whether they can source recycled (GRS) performance yarns if sustainability matters to your brand.

  • Four-way stretch for freedom of movement and recovery
  • Moisture-wicking / quick-dry finishes for sweat management
  • Options for recycled (GRS) performance fabrics

Construction that survives real use

Technical construction is what stops activewear chafing, sagging, or falling apart. Flatlock seams lie smooth against the skin; bonded or taped seams reduce bulk; and gussets and reinforced stress points keep leggings and tops in shape.

  • Flatlock seams to prevent chafing
  • Gussets and reinforced seams for durability under stress
  • Squat-proof, opaque fabric on bottoms — test it on the sample

Sampling activewear is non-negotiable

Because fit and stretch behaviour cannot be judged on paper, activewear must be sampled and worn-tested — moved in, stretched, and washed — before bulk. Budget an extra sampling round versus a simple tee; getting the fit and compression right is worth it.

MOQs and what to expect

Technical fabrics sometimes carry higher minimums than basic knits, but a manufacturer set up for growing brands can still start low — around 100 pieces per style. Confirm fabric MOQs up front, since some performance fabrics are ordered in minimum roll quantities.

How to vet an activewear manufacturer

Ask to see and wear-test their activewear samples, confirm the fabrics and seam types they run, and check they can hold your fit across reorders. The right partner will talk fluently about GSM, stretch percentages, and moisture management — not just price.

We produce performance activewear with technical construction from low MOQs, with sampling and wear-testing built in. Send your reference or tech pack for a factory-direct quote within 24 hours.
