Custom Hoodie Manufacturer: MOQ, Fabrics & Pricing

Hoodies are one of the most-ordered custom garments — and one of the easiest to get wrong. The difference between a hoodie that feels premium and one that feels cheap comes down to a few specific choices: fabric weight, fleece type, fit, and construction. Here is what to decide before you approach a custom hoodie manufacturer, and what realistic MOQs, pricing, and timelines look like.

Fabric weight (GSM) is the biggest decision

A hoodie lives or dies on its fabric weight, measured in GSM (grams per square metre). Lighter fabric feels thin and promotional; heavier fabric feels premium and holds structure — at a higher cost and unit weight.

Decide this first, because it drives both the feel and the price of everything else.

  • 240–280 GSM: everyday hoodies, good drape, cost-efficient
  • 300–350 GSM: premium retail weight — the streetwear sweet spot
  • 400+ GSM: heavyweight, boxy, structured — top-tier feel, higher cost

Fleece type and fit

Brushed (fleece-back) interiors feel soft and warm; loop-back (French terry) is lighter and more breathable. Your fit — regular, oversized, or boxy drop-shoulder — changes the pattern and the amount of fabric per unit, so lock it early with a sample.

  • Brushed fleece: warm, soft, classic hoodie feel
  • French terry / loop-back: lighter, structured, good for layering
  • Fit: oversized and drop-shoulder use more fabric — factor it into cost

MOQs, pricing, and lead times

A manufacturer built for growing brands should start around 50–100 pieces per style. Pricing depends on GSM, fit, and decoration, but the fabric weight is the main lever — a 450 GSM heavyweight can cost noticeably more per unit than a 280 GSM hoodie.

Plan the calendar realistically: sampling first, then bulk production, then transit.

  • MOQ: from ~50–100 pcs per style/colour with the right manufacturer
  • Sampling: development samples in ~7–10 days
  • Production: typically 3–6 weeks after sample approval, plus shipping

Fleece weight is the single biggest cost lever in a hoodie, and the GSM tiers we run are listed on our hoodie and sweatshirt page.

Construction details that separate good from cheap

The details buyers feel but rarely specify: double-needle stitching at stress points, ribbed cuffs and hem with good recovery, a lined hood, metal-tipped drawcords, and a clean, flat front pouch. Ask to see these on your sample.

Decoration: print vs embroidery

Embroidery reads premium and survives washing well; screen printing is economical at volume; DTF handles full-colour art at low quantities. For puff or oversized back prints, confirm the method with your manufacturer up front — it changes cost and setup.

How to brief your manufacturer

Send a reference hoodie you like, your target GSM and fit, decoration details, quantities, and target price. The more specific the brief, the closer the first sample lands — and the faster you get to a hoodie you can sell.

We produce custom hoodies from 50 pieces with development samples in 7–10 days. Send your spec or a reference and you will have a factory-direct quote within 24 hours.
